Kolkata - Terraces and beyond : Terraces have always fascinated me. From exchanging gossips to plain peeping into the neighboring houses - the terrace ('chaad' in Bengali) has a special designation in my list of nostalgias. I am fascinated by the idea of being able to zoom in and zoom out of my subject at my own ease - tracking people, incidents, the innumerable wires and cables trailing into the various houses, the mossy dampness on the terrace walls giving birth to textures and colors that I trace out on my canvases with so much of difficulty.

Kolkata - Soul Konnection : Kolkata is my city, my home. It stirs up my emotions, it stirs up my soul. The city at dusk through the heavy dark thunder clouds, the incessant noise from the crowded streets, the familiar faces, the multiple options of local savouries, the hurting riot of colours - all these rejuvenate me. This gallery can only be felt by someone who has experienced the city's chaos. And I do hope that someone who hasn't had that prior experience can actually feel the same by viewing this gallery. Kolkata - Touching the bricks of history : There are many old houses and structures in Kolkata which emanates decades of colonisation and the past glory of the city. This album captures only a few of them which bear a special significance to me. The Magistrate's House in Alipore where I have spent a few years of my glorious childhood; the Howrah Station which was our first port of call before we got onto the trains which would transport us to long-distance vacations; the Howrah Bridge which is the other face of Kolkata to its residents and non-residents; the old beautiful house of the film director Shakti Samanta which houses the primary school that my mother teaches in - I grew up visiting her very frequently.

Kolkata - Through grilled verandahs & windows : The outside - Incessant rains followed by unrepentant blue skies; the jostling for space in the shelter of the bus stop; the human and traffic trails from the terraces and the verandahs, the evening sky peeping from behind the houses mighty and tall... all captured through the confines of the grilled windows and the verandahs, with the background music provided by the rhythm of the rains. The Inside - Monotony of long hours confined in the indoors are shattered as I click my camera through everything - the real cooking in the real kitchen to the pretend cooking of my girls' toy cooking sets; the countless plastic containers on the dining table - all containing various delicious local savories; the hangings on the walls, the piles of books on the wooden shelves, perhaps reflecting the high & mighty Bong intellect and much more...

Rub al-Khali Desert, UAE : Rub al-Khali, UAE: Liwa Desert is located in the Abu Dhabi Empty Quarter and is the largest untouched and uninterrupted sand desert in the world. It lies about 100 km south of the Persian Gulf coast and 150 km from the city of Abu Dhabi, on the northern edge of Rub al Khali desert. In mid December every year, thousands of camel owners from the UAE and various GCC countries flock this place near Zayed City in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi amidst the sand dunes of this Rub al-khali desert, to participate in the 'Mazayen' festival or the camel beauty contest. There is actually a street called the Million Street – in the middle of nowhere with a sea of sand surrounding us as we drive along this street. Along this ‘Million’s Street’, which is so named as transactions worth millions of UAE Dirhams take place, camels are bought and sold – their worth running into millions of Dirhams depending upon their beauty!

Srilanka - Nostalgia Re-visited : Srilanka evokes only good memories. We built our first home in Srilanka at the time when it was totally ravaged by war. There was constant fear in our minds but there was immense love in our hearts - love for the wonderful people we made friends with, the beautiful beaches we visited, the unbelievably spicy food we ate... Revisiting Srilanka after more than a decade - there has been lots of changes. The war has stopped. We travel with excess baggage all the time, thanks to the 2 little spoilt brats that we trudge along...But everything else is the same, if not better - have the greens become more greener and the spicy food spicier?

GrossGlockner, Zell am See and Austrian Lake District : According to folklore, it took millions of years for Mother Nature to create the Alps. Then the glaciers cut through them and blessed the Alpine valleys with rivers and streams. The hotel brochures here proclaim that Salzkammergut was created at God’s leisure, obviously on a Sunday! These are the lakes that have been picturised so brilliantly in the movie ‘The Sound of Music’ and these are the same valleys that Maria, played so beautifully by Julie Andrews and the 7 children of Captan Von Trapp ran around. I think could hear the tune of ‘Do-Re-Me-Fa…’ almost everywhere. It still seems to be linger in the crystal blue skies and the lush verdant valleys.
